The Top Ten DVD's Sitting on my TV. 1. The Stand (Rated PG-13) - Made in 1994 and based on the book by Stephen King. There's not much in the way of features on this DVD but the story has been really cut from the original book but it's still a great one. A goverment made flu virus wipes about something like 99% of the worlds populations and in the aftermath two group colace in America. One led by the good Mother Abigail and other by the demon Randall Flagg. The two parties will clash in a war for not just their future - but their very souls. 2.Dogma (Rated R)- A lot of great features and an all around great movie with a wonderful cast. An unwilling decendant of Jesus must follow two unlikely prophets and the unknown thirteenth apostle to stop two banished angels from re-entering heaven and negating all of existence in the process. 3. Perfect Blue (Rated R) - What would happen if Alfred Hitchcock met Walt Diseny? They would've created Mima Kirigoe, a pop star turned actress who has been thrust into a terrifying world of paranoid delusions as her most intimate moments are being published on the internet for all to see. And as people around her are being murdered Mima becomes the target of a very devoted fan. 4. Fight Club (Rated R) - Male agression gets channeled into underground fight clubs that spreads from city to city with alarming speed. I don't want to give too much away on this one just because it is a truely inventive story. Good extras, but look for Brad Pitt stills thoughout the whole movie. 5. Sixth Sense (Rated PG-13) - Dr. Crowe has a lot of problems, his wife isn't talking to him anymore and his practice as the cities best child psychologist is failing. But his problmes can't compare to young Cole Sear who sees dead people everywhere. Dr. Croew must get to the root of Cole's problems and finds his own problems might have more to do with then he thought. You should know the ending on this one, I firgured it out two minutes after seeing Cole in the movie and bluttered out to the theater. But it is good suspense! 6. Labyrinth (Rated PG) - A wonderful tale of the the young Sarah a typical frustrated teenager with a not so typical admirer - the Goblin King. When Sarah calls on the Goblin King to take her wailing baby brother Toby the King grants her wish. Sarah must follow him into the labyrinth to save Toby from the Goblin King. It's a classic, but not much in the way of extras. 7. The Princess Bride (Rated PG) - Based on the charming book by William Goldstein this movie follows the story of Buttercup and Westley. When Buttercup's true love Westley is believed murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts she is betrothed to the rotten Prince Humperdink. But when Westley appears to reclaim his love he must battle even death to save Buttercup. Almost no extras. 8. The Green Mile (Rated R) - Based on the serial novel by Stephen King. When a mystrious man enters death row he turns the routine of the mile upside down and leaves a deep mark on the soul of every man there. A great movie, but very few special features. It was nice to see the documentary though. 9. Unbreakable (Rated PG-13) - After suriving a terrible train crash David Dunn meets a comic book dealer who believes super heros are real and the David is one of them. Another great movie by M. Night Shyamalan with a frightening end. 10. Dark Crystal (Rated PG) - Last of his race, Jen must heal the Crystal that was before his time shattered before the covegence of the three suns. What a great movie, and a wonderful fairy tale. |
